Windows 7 Mouse Freezing Fix

If you are using windows 7 then you might experience problems with the mouse freezing. Windows 7 mouse freeze problems are extremely common and irritating. There are two main types of these. This can be where the cursor will lock up but can still be moved, or alternatively where you cannot even move the mouse.

Checking the Mouse

The first thing that you should do is check the health of your computer mouse. Mice for computers get a lot of use and this means that they can collect all sorts of gunk around the optical light or ball. Check that your mouse isn’t causing the problem.

You should also ensure that the drivers for your mouse or other pointing device is fully updated. Windows update should take care of this for you.

Other Problems

If your mouse is healthy enough then it’s likely to be a software problem. This is when your computer stops responding because of inadequate available resources. If you are trying to run too many applications at once for example then it can cause the problem. Try reducing the number of applications that you are opening on your computer at a time, or instead upgrade the RAM in your computer.

Registry

Another very common reason that computer users will experience windows 7 mouse freeze issues is because of the registry. If there are any errors or corrupt entries in the registry then this will cause your computer to stop working correctly. The registry is home to lots of useful information, including how the mouse should be interpreted.

You should never try to manually edit the registry. Although technically possible, there is a very large chance that you will make matters much worse. If you accidentally remove the wrong keys in the registry then it will stop your computer working at all.
A much better option is to use a registry scanner or registry cleaner. These applications are automatic and can search for any problems and then help to fix them. These will also back up your computer to minimize the risks caused by any mistakes.
